How it all started
Jay Books UK, previously Jay Poems, started in 2020 during lockdown. From the age of 8, I fell in love with reading and started writing poetry.
Inspired by Maya Angelou, I would create poems for special occasions for friends and family. Around the age of 14, I wrote and illustrated a short children’s story for a school project which is now published, “The Farmer and the Potato Men”.
In my teenage years, I would create poems for special occasions at the request of family and friends. I remember a conversation with my mother about wanting to get my poems published when growing up and even remember telling her the title, “Thoughts of the Mind”.
Seeing the joy in individuals reading a poem that has been created just for them makes me feel happy. My poetry books have been inspired by people from around the world and that’s why they are so special to me. I remember speaking to individuals for inspiration before creating.
I spoke with children, teenagers, survivors of abuse, those in love or not, individuals about self-love, couples, addicts and more before writing each poem. There are readers out there who will resonate with one or more poems in my books.
I believe my words and creations have inspired many and continue to do so.
